Tiara Russell is an archival artist and spatial storyteller, specializing in the use of found, vintage, and collected materials to construct immersive environments that celebrate Black life, memory, and imagination. With a deep reverence for vintage Black art and artifacts, Tiara’s work blurs the line between interior design and cultural preservation—transforming ordinary spaces into living archives.
Rooted in a background in Communications and a love for layered storytelling, Tiara draws from the past to reimagine the present. Her evolving aesthetic reflects an African Mid-Century Modern style—merging clean lines and sculptural forms with vibrant color palettes and traditional patterns. Through her designs, she intentionally inserts Black presence into eras where it was often erased or distorted, reclaiming space through visual narrative.
Originally from Atlanta, Tiara relocated to Richmond in 2020 with her husband and creative partner. Their shared journey led them to Petersburg, Virginia, where they invested in a historic property in Old Town and established Haus on Market—a former photography studio now reimagined as a gallery and community arts hub. The space is a physical extension of Tiara’s archival practice, offering room for local artists and organizations to showcase their work, host events, and gather in a place steeped in intentional design.
Beyond Haus on Market, Tiara collaborates with small business owners to design culturally resonant commercial interiors and serves as a visual arts educator with the Boys and Girls Club and Petersburg City Public Schools, empowering the next generation to find their own stories in the materials around them.
