Tiara Donald is a writer, visual artist, and designer. Born in Saginaw Michigan, raised in Atlanta Georgia, she has remained dedicated to art and design since a child. From hip hop music videos and movie production, to the interior designs and fashion influences of her mother, everything was about art and aesthetics. As a child she spent most of her time writing poems or short stories, creating scenes with her barbie dolls, or drawing recreations of her mothers Gautier perfume bottles. Tiara’s childhood influences and creative interests built the foundation of the life long creative passions she now pursues.
Following her minor undergraduate studies, she’s practiced a variety of Studio art methods throughout her work in an attempt to build a diverse portfolio. Part of her current artistic process entails commissioned paintings, up-cycling furniture, and collecting nostalgic objects for set designs and props. She also works with local business owners in the RVA area to create interactive spatial designs for their commercial spaces. When she is not working with other business owners and creatives, she is designing out sets for photography and videography in her own studio “The Haus on Market”.
Tiara purchased the studio in March of 2020, with life and business partner Kristopher Russell. The Haus on Market is a historic home located in the heart of Petersburg, Virginia. The two partnered together and turned the space into a creative studio for set design, prop rental and space rental for photography and videography. Haus is set to open in Fall of 2020.
Her designs consist of recreating eras, minimal organic sets, and colorful and embellished compositions depending on the subject and client. Inspired by some Western art, she uses classic contemporary ideas and integrates black and female phenomenon. “My goal is to normalize luxury and exclusiveness in black culture, we serve as more than entertainment”.
As a developing artist, Tiara plans to continue to influence engagement in art on more than just a gallery/show level, as she uses her space to help other creatives interact and develop their crafts to push the black art and design agenda forward.
